What is lurking in your make up brushes

As many of us are cleaning, decorating, eating and repeating at the moment now might be a good time to spring clean our make up bags, specifically make up brushes.

It helps to understand the importance of cleaning your make up brushes for many reasons.

1. They hold bacteria and dirt that can block pores, cause acne and even cause skin infection.

2. It can cause you to you to develop more lines and wrinkles. This is because of the possible production of more free radicals in the skin from the dirt you are exposed to from the brushes.

Free radical presence will cause collagen and elastin to break down. A reduction in collagen and elastin in the skin causes increased appearance of ageing as they are the building blocks in the skin that make it look youthful.

3. Skin can get irritated by the bacteria causing it to feel uncomfortable and sore.

4. I can actually make your make up look worse. By using a make up brush which is covered in dirty make up the application will be less effective.

5. It’s a waste of money.

Spending money on expensive make up brushes, nice make up and probably skincare and in clinic treatments for you then go on to use dirty brushes that will make your make up look rough and clogged and worse than that cause you to have wrinkles increase signs of ageing and even worse than that cause you to have infections which can put your skin health at risk is definitely a poor result of you investment.

So take a few minutes to do something for your skin and clean your make up brushes.

Most of us use make up that have some degree of oil in them so it will take a soap to break that down. You can use a mild soap or baby shampoo and warm water. Be sure you get all the dirty out and air dry them thoroughly before using them again.

Alternatively there are many videos on YouTube show you how to wash brushes. You can also purchase make up brushing equipment but the wealth of information I’ve seen suggests that is not necessary.

So whilst spring cleaning your wardrobe, reorganising the Tupperware draw take a few minutes out to wash out what is lurking in your make up brushes!
