Frequently Asked Questions

Many clients ask similar questions so here are a few frequently asked with the answers to help you with your skin journey

What are wrinkle relaxing injections and how do they work?

The use of facial muscles repeatedly throughout your life causes the skin to crease in the areas of most action – this is usually on the forehead and around the eyes. As the skin gets older, we produce less collagen, so these areas are prone to damage, making the lines more visible.

Commonly known as Botox, botulinum toxin blocks the chemical messages from the nerve to the muscle. The muscle becomes less active, stopping the skin creasing which allows time for recovery and results in much smoother skin. It takes four to ten days to take effect and will last around three to four months.

With repeated treatment, the muscles re-educate themselves and the treatment generally become less frequent.

Is it safe?

Botulinum toxin has been used since the 1970’s for many medical reasons. It’s effects on the body is well understood as it is vigorously tested. Aesthetically, minute doses are considered safe. Some side effects can occur and can include bruising, excessive or uneven results and localised infection. Advice on how to reduce the risk of these is discussed after your treatment.

What happens during treatment?

The procedure itself takes only a few minutes. You will be asked to use certain muscles on your face, so it can be observed how they function. The area is then cleaned, and a fine, short needle is used to administer the treatment under the skin. This may cause some mild and brief discomfort. There may be some small swelling and redness that will settle after a matter of minutes. Arnica gel will be used after your treatment to minimise any bruising. Time will then be spent to go through your after care, and you will be able to return to everyday activities as normal.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal filler is an injectable product that, as the name suggests, fills the lines making them appear smoother. The results are instant and last approximately a year.

How does it work?

It is injectable biocompatible hyaluronic acid gel, which is a naturally occurring substance. Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced in the skin giving it that full appearance of young skin, but unfortunately as we age, our skin’s ability to produce it dwindles. When injected under the skin, hyaluronic acid combines with water to enhance the smoothness of deeper lines caused by ageing, resulting in a more youthful appearance.

Is it safe?

Hyaluronic acid is a substance produced naturally, so allergy is very rare. Side effects can result in bruising, inflammation, lumps and redness – although these symptoms are mild and temporary. You will be given advice to minimise the risks of these in your aftercare.

What happens during the treatment?

The procedure starts with a local anaesthetic cream which is applied to the area to be treated. It can take 30 minutes for this to take effect. The area is then cleaned, and a fine, short needle is used to administer the hyaluronic acid gel. You may feel some mild discomfort for the first injection, but the gel has anaesthetic within it to reduce any pain. The product will be massaged under the skin to ensure smooth and even results. After treatment, arnica gel is applied to reduce bruising and aftercare advice will be given. You can return to your day to day activities immediately after treatment.

What is Collagen Induction Therapy and how does it work?

Using micro-needles on a medical-graded roller or pen device, it is moved over the skin to create very small puncture wounds to initiate the healing process. Fibroblasts create signals leading to the production of more collagen in the skin. There will be some minor bleeding and redness to the skin, but this will not be visible following the treatment.

How long does it take to see the results?

You’ll recognise an improvement to the skin approximately three weeks after your first treatment. For the best results, a course of three to five treatments is recommended – four to six weeks apart – depending on your skin issues and the areas requiring treatment. Your skin will then continue to improve for up to 12 months and we recommend one to two treatments per year.

What is a microneedling pen?

This is a revolutionary small hand-held device that delivers up to 1300 micro punctures to the skin per second, with varying needle depths and speed control.

What are the benefits of a microneedling pen  compared to other microneedling devices?

It’s considered safer and more effective due to the control of speed and needle depth for the benefit of treating various issues and different layers of the skin. It can target areas other devices can’t.

Is collagen induction therapy  treatment painful?

For treating issues that require deeper needle depth, a local anaesthetic cream is applied prior to treatment. For more shallow treatments this is not required and is generally painless. People do report mild discomfort in some areas, but this is usually short lived.

What is Genuine Dermaroller?

This is a hand-held rolling device that is studded with 100 micro needles. It is rolled over the skin to create micro puncture wounds to the skin.

Is Dermaroller treatment painful?

As the needle depth isn’t adaptable, anaesthetic cream is applied and there will be some discomfort during your treatment. The skin will feel like its sunburnt for a few hours after treatment.

What is a skin peel?

A skin peel is a technique using a solution, that loosens the ‘glue’ that holds down the top layer of dead skin, revealing the new skin beneath. It also works on the deeper skin layers aiding hydration, reducing congestion reducing pigmentation all leading to a more vibrant appearance of the skin.

How many treatments do I need?

You’ll notice a difference to the condition of your skin immediately after the first treatment. A course of three to five treatments, two to four weeks apart are recommended to correct varying skin issues. We recommend monthly to two treatments per year to maintain your skin.

What happens during the treatment?

During the procedure your skin is thoroughly cleaned before a mask treatment is applied. This is followed by the appropriate peel solution being brushed on to the skin. The solution activates in up to five minutes, before being removed with a neutralising solution or neutralising its self, followed in some cases with a boosting treatment and then brighten enhancer.  Soothing balm and SPF will complete the treatment. The treatment will last about 30 minutes and you can be back to your normal routine the same day.

Are there any side effects?

The skin is virtually normal in appearance after treatment. Any redness will be temporary and normal. In very rare cases some crusting may occur.

Do skin peels hurt?

No, there will only be some stinging or tingling. If it does become uncomfortable, the solution can be neutralised quickly.

When should I expect to see the benefits of skin boosters?

Sunekos acts in a physiological way. The standard protocol for face consists of 3-4 treatments; it is common to see improvements after the first session. full effects can be seen at 8-12 weeks after treatment depending on product used.

How long are the results lasting?

Depending on the product chose and the person and their skin conditions, results can last 1-6 months before repeating the procedure.

How long does the procedure take?

Depending on the area that is being treated Sunekos requires from 1 to 4 treatments, each treatment normally can be completed in 20 minutes.

What is low-level-light therapy?

Low-level-light therapy or photobiomodulation is based on Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology and is the application of light energy to the body for therapeutic benefits. It promotes a natural photobiochemical reaction similar to the process of plant photosynthesis. The energy delivered by the LEDs has been shown to enhance cellular metabolism, accelerate the repair and replenishment of damaged skin cells, as well as stimulate the production of collagen — the foundation of healthy, smooth skin. Research has shown that LED light therapy may help smooth skin texture, improve skin firmness and resilience, increase lymphatic system activity, restore skin’s natural cellular activity, and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and superficial hyperpigmentation. The treatment is for all skin types, and is non-ablative, non-invasive, painless, and requires absolutely no downtime. Patients or clients can return to their normal activity immediately after the treatment.

What Does It Feel Like to Use Celluma?

Using Celluma light therapy devices is very relaxing. Simply adjust yourself into a restful position and wrap the treatment area with your Celluma. A single session lasts approximately 30 minutes. Most patients experience immediate results and leave their skin feeling like it is glowing. Stiff, sore and painful joints may experience improvements with one to three sessions. Keep in mind that results vary from patients to patient depending on the severity of the condition and adherence to protocols.

Are there any special preparations required before having LED light therapy?

Celluma should be in close proximity to the area being treated. Skin should also be free of clothing, makeup, or anything else that may deflect light away from the skin.

How safe is light therapy?

Low-level-light therapy is based on light emitting diode (LED) technology developed for NASA-manned space flight experiments. In comparison to lasers, the patented LED technology generates negligible amounts of heat and is not considered a significant risk device.
